                                                                                      Badges of the 70s

In 1969 the Villa decided to change the club shirt to a V neck design and the badge on the chest was a lion with AV underneath. The badges 1,2&3 below are about the closet anyone in badge form came to it. One of my favourite badges. In the 70s there were plenty of badge sellers round Villa Park and there was a glut of new badges season after season. There was also alot of occasions to celebrate, promotion as champions of the third division, the centenary of the club, promotion to the first division and twice winners of the league cup. We also played for the first time in european competiton in the uefa cup in 1976.The club badge was changed to the circular design at the start of the 1973-74 season and through the 70s and 80s was made in every colour the villa played in. The badge maker Reeves was under new ownership in 1992 and re-issued alot of the old badges from the 70s and 80s but were not identical to the originals. Please check these badges before you decide to pay a few bob for them.
